Soundiron has released a new version of Drinking Piano. Drinking Piano 2.0 Update offers 1,818 stereo samples, 34 ambient sounds created from source content, 24 bit / 48 kHz uncompressed PCM wav samples, 20 custom sound design effects and ambient presets and more.
The Drinking Piano is a fat-bottomed monster upright piano with a classic “beer hall” tone that evokes the 20’s and pre-war 30’s. Soundiron has recorded this century-old instrument in a small, slightly reflective hall, close to the strings, and will give you some studio-like dryness and a touch of live ambience. You’ll feel like you’re sitting on a bench with yellow, cracked ivory keys under your fingers.
Over the years, the once stately instrument has become mottled under the influence of alcohol. Worn and wobbly keys, unreliable dampers, loose pedal mechanics, frayed felt, occasional misplaced hammers and decades of dusting, each key has the character and frailty of a century-old bartender.
Strings corrode so badly that tuning cannot be done without risking breakage and further internal damage. Beneath the beer stains and cigarette burns, though, this extremely aging bard has substantial pedigree. It is the original model of Ivors and Pond from the early 20th century and is made of solid mahogany with expert craftsmanship and detailing rarely found in modern upright pianos.
In this 2.0 update, they have reworked sampling and built it into a flexible four-layer modular user interface. In The Drinking Piano, you’ll find tuned and untuned pianos, bench squeaks, plucks, pedals, sound effects, 3 types of ambience, hums, changing textures, and more.
Full retail version for Kontakt 5.5 or higher.
The Drinking Piano is available now for just $39 (was $49), and the deal runs until June 7.
