The architect Palù signs the new Stockholm Auditorium: the Queen Silvia Concert Hall is a bridge between past and future

How far is Italy from Sweden? Today a little less, thanks to the project by architect Giorgio Palù of the Arkpabi studio, who designed the brand new Stockholm Auditorium: the Queen Silvia Concert Hall which will be inaugurated on 7 June in the presence of the Queen of Sweden. Immersive, multidisciplinary, inclusive: a place dedicated to live music and artistic performances. Built to the highest environmental standards and equipped with the latest digital technologies, the hall will be a physical barrier-free musical and educational exchange center, with the ability to connect with a network of artists around the world.

The Queen Silvia Concert Hall, for whose design Palù has made use of the collaboration of the Japanese acoustic expert Yasuhisa Toyota, will be able to accommodate up to 300 people and will also be the new home of the Lilla Akademien, the historic conservatory of the city founded in 1998 and characterized by a study program that includes many disciplines, from music to dance, even chess. The architect Palù, born in Cremona, born in 1964, graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, had already received the Compasso d’Oro ADI in 2016 for the Giovanni Arvedi Auditorium in Cremona. The main inspiration for the Queen Silvia Concert Hall was that of the continuous and fluid movement of the red ribbon used by the rhythmic dancers which, after being unrolled, releases itself into the sky with an elegant lightness.

The space, in general, wants to represent the continuity between the past and the future of music and to be an experimental place, open to new musical formulas. «I am very proud – Palù explained – of this project and of being able to complete it on schedule with exciting architectural results. I am grateful because I was given the opportunity to leave my personal touch in a magical city, in a truly special environment where I found educated clients who were open to sharing innovative concepts with a careful look at the future of music. Furthermore, the benefactors who financially supported the realization of this fascinating project are entrepreneurs of global importance and of the highest standing. I leave with a little tension, but happy. Also because to confirm her appreciation of my project, Queen Silvia wanted to give her name to her room ».
