«These honors are not the prize for you. The reward – you know very well – is the satisfaction of having done what you have done, the thanks of those who have been helped, the smile of those who have been helped: this is the real thanks. This is a thank you that truly represents an enrichment even for those who perform these gestures. And it is the real prize that you have achieved ». With these words Monday morning the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella has delivered to the Quirinale the honors of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, for the years 2020 and 2021, conferred “motu proprio”, to citizens who have distinguished themselves for civic sense and solidarity.

There was also among them Cristina Zambonini from Ossola, 35 years old, the woman of the “three hearts” because of the two transplants carried out, nominated knight of the Republic “for her example of fortitude and for her passionate contribution in promoting the culture of giving”.
“You also represent many other Italians – said President Mattarella -, who adopt behaviors similar to yours, because fortunately the behavior of those who take care of the needs of others, anxieties, needs, are widespread in our country, of hopes. To thank the people you have helped I would like to add mine: thanks for what you have done».
