I’ve been following THE VISION BLEAK for more than ten years now and I’m very happy that there’s a new album after an eight-year break. Behind this band name are the busy, multi-talented Markus “Schwadorf” Stock and the charismatic singer Tobias “Konstanz” Schönemann, both of whom are also active in other bands. I just saw them live at the Ragnarök Festival and they were absolutely convincing, so I was very excited about the new work entitled “Weird Tales”.
A few soft tones are followed by a slightly more powerful playing style, which is complemented by pleasant deep vocals from “Konstanz”, which creates a dark character. Nevertheless, a lot of space is given to the engaging melodies, which often consist of piano and guitar playing. Occasionally there are also faster parts and the vocals turn into violent growls contributed by “Schwadorf”. In between, bells ring, which creates a very eerie atmosphere. So there is a lot of variety throughout, which in no way interrupts the very dense atmosphere but rather intensifies it.
“Weird Tales” seems like a single track, but it is officially divided. Everything flows smoothly into one another and there are almost no breaks, even if there is a lot of variety in the music and singing. So if you like listening to music in an immersive way, you’ve come to the right place.
