I feel as confident with our new lineup as I did all those years ago when “Wildcat” appeared on the shelves and it was given a unanimous thumbs up.Rob Weir

The news recently reported that tigers are back in the wild in India. A really nice message. But I think it’s even nicer that the tigers of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal are back on the turntable. TYGERS OF PAN TANG were one of the NWOBHM bands that played at the forefront from their founding in 1978. In 1980 their debut “Wild Cat” was released and everything was going well for the band until album number 4 (“The Cage” in 1987). Sometimes the later one played WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY and BLUE MURDER guitarist John Sykes the second guitar from the second record.

After some squabbling with their label MCA (which demanded the band record more covers since THE CLOVERS’ “Love Potion No. 9” was a huge hit), the band broke up in 1983, not keen on the idea at all were. Between 85-87 two albums were released with new members. In 1999 a real reunion took place, which continues to this day with various band members.

“Bloodlines” is the seventh album since the reunion and according to founder Robb Weir and the label, the best ever released under the band name. What else should they say? And I have to admit that the new output is mostly convincing. Beginning with “Edge Of The World”, a successful hard rock song in my opinion, there is no real failure until the final chord.

The opener begins with oriental sounds that are somewhat reminiscent of RAINBOW and VAN HALEN remember. “In My Blood” and “Fire On The Horizon”, which has already been released as a single, will easily convince even the veteran fans. “Light of Hope” then comes calmer, almost ballad-like around the corner. The voice of Jack Mile (SAINTED SINNERS) has given the band a new twist since joining in 2004. TYGERS OF PAN TANG have become more melodic thanks to him, but without denying or rather forgetting their roots. Certain vocal parallels too EUROPE‘s Joey Tempest can’t be denied on some songs.

Even if “Bloodlines” goes more in the direction of Hard Rock, you can still hear the Metal in it. Towards the end, TOPT becomes almost progressive. The song “Making All The Rules” (which reminds me a lot of SAVATAGE’s “Handful Of Rain” at the beginning), which is about young people of today who don’t always make the right decisions due to the prevailing pressure that flows on them from many sides meet and their lives take disastrous paths with it. Starting slowly, the song builds up to the end and the vocals and guitars make the fatal decisions mentioned in the lyrics directly audible. A really strong song and conclusion for a really strong album.

The Tygers will definitely leave their mark in the music jungle with their new album.
