ROME – The figures reported in the latest monthly bulletin “Auto-Trend”, the Aci analysis on the Pra data, leave no room for doubt: Italian motorists prefer used cars. In February, changes in ownership of cars net of mini-transfers (temporary transfers in the name of the dealer awaiting resale to the end customer) grew by 15.6% compared to the same month of 2023: for every 100 new cars there were 185 used vehicles were sold, rising to 193 in the first two months of the year.

Similarly, the net passages of motorcycles are also growing, with an increase of 14.3% compared to the month of February 2023. In the field of fuel, user preferences continue towards traditional fuels (diesel and petrol), while the of second-hand petrol hybrid cars reaches 6.3%, showing an increase of 72.4%.

On the other hand, the sales of electric cars have not taken off and, although they have achieved a growth of 71.2%, they still do not exceed the 0.6% share. In mini-transports, even if with a slight decline, diesel fuels confirmed themselves in first place (49.7% compared to 53% in February 2023), while hybrid petrol fuels obtained 7.9%, once again surpassing LPG fuels at 7.5%.

Also noteworthy is the increase in mini-transfers of diesel hybrid cars (+60.5%), the share of which, however, still remains low (below 2%). Overall, in the first two months of 2024, net transfers show increases of 14.1% for cars, 11.4% for motorcycles and 13.2% for all vehicles, compared to the same period in 2023.

In the month of February, radiation increased with a leap of 55.9% compared to the same month of 2023, a result which was affected by scrapping (+22.3%), exports (+29.3%) and almost 29,000 radiations ex officio of the Lombardy Region.
