Will Smith has submitted his resignation from the Academy of the Oscars after his onstage slap to Chris Rock at last Sunday’s awards ceremony. This was announced by Smith himself in a statement published by Variety, adding that he will accept “any further consequences that the board considers appropriate”.
The actor, winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film “King Richard – A winning family” just moments before the award ceremony, had lashed out at the presenter of the awards ceremony, the comedian Rock, throwing a “hand. And accusing him loudly and in scurrilous words of making a bad joke about the haircut of the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett.
Smith then apologized, but the evening, already tired and predictable, was definitively ruined by the reckless act of the actor, who for his action would also have risked being arrested, were it not for the fact that the comedian Rock refused to file a complaint against your attacker.
Now the resignation and further apologies that the plaintiff must also present in writing to the same Academy that opened a proceeding for violation of the standards of conduct. Smith would thus risk losing the prestigious statuette.
Meanwhile, Academy President David Rubin has announced that Smith’s resignation has been accepted and that disciplinary proceedings are continuing.
