Adopt a new logo. Strengthen security inspections. Chrome 100 with Multi-Display Support for Web Apps Officially Launched – PCM

A few days ago, Google Chrome, which was updated urgently due to the discovery of a major vulnerability, was released today according to the original plan of version 100.0.4896.60. In addition to adopting the new logo announced earlier, this version also adds security checks and enhanced browsing security functions, and provides a number of new APIs for web program developers to make web programs closer to native programs.

The newly added security check function can check the security of browsers and passwords. Users can click “⋮ > Privacy and Security” in the upper right corner and click the “Security Check” button on the right. “Enhanced Protection” is to actively block unsafe websites and downloaded files. If you want to enhance security, click “⋮ > Privacy and Security > Security” in the upper right corner, and then select “Enhanced Protection”.

Google Chrome was launched on September 1, 2008, and after more than 13 years, Chrome finally ushered in version 100. However, since the version number has changed from 2 digits to 3 digits, some people worried that there would be a problem similar to the “Millennium Bug” in web applications. Most of the problems have been fixed through the cooperation of Chrome and the upcoming version 100 of Firefox, but the official still urges developers to check the program as soon as possible to see if there is a problem with the 3-digit version number.

Chrome 100 fixes 28 vulnerabilities at the same time, but there are no critical-level vulnerabilities.

Due to the problem that the application relies on the unreliable and easily faked browser User-Agent string, starting from Chrome 100, the User-Agent string will be gradually retired, and the User-Agent client will prompt the API on top to provide developers with more Reliable user browser information.

The current User-Agent string for Chrome 100:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.60 Safari/537.36

Chrome 100 officially introduced the multi-screen window placement API, which allows web applications to obtain detailed information on each screen of the user, and can pop up a window on a specified screen. In the demo program, the developer demonstrates that the price charts of different cryptocurrencies fill all screens, and when the user closes one of the windows, the other windows of the application can be closed together. Another application is in the presentation program, the program can specify that the slideshow is displayed in full screen on the main screen, and the presentation is displayed on the secondary screen.

Other new APIs include the device.forget() method to revoke the authorization of a HID human interface device, and the ndef.makeReadOnly() method to permanently make NFC read-only.

If you want to actively update to Chrome 100, just click “⋮ > Help > About Google Chrome” in the upper right corner to start the update process.
