All the Ferrari technology in a pair of jeans

All the Ferrari technology in a pair of jeans

“What’s my pony doing on a blonde’s ass?” Enzo Ferrari went on a rampage when in Monza in the pits he saw the Jeans that Clay Ragazzoni, his F1 driver at the time, had put up for sale all over Europe: they were red, with two huge Ferrari symbols on the back pockets. The pants were withdrawn from the market, Clay was sanctioned and the story ended like this. But the histrionic Swiss driver had seen a long way and today somehow, but with all the trappings of officialdom, history repeats itself: all Ferrari technology is over again (oh well Clay didn’t put much of it …) in a pair of jeans. This is the latest idea of Maranello merchandising that leads to the sale online of something never seen before. And not only for the price (1800 euros), but also for the style and materials.

The Ferrari “5-pocket jeans” are in fact in cotton, with a fabric animated by a print inspired by the lines of the F1 circuits which gives a strange 3D optical effect. In fact, looking at them it seems that they cannot be focused, but this is precisely the stylistic “game” sought by Ferrari tailors because these trousers have been “designed – they explain to Maranello – for those who love impactful and trendy design”.

In any case, it is not just a question of style: the buttons and rivets are made of ruthenium, customized with the iconic prancing horse. A complication almost on the verge of madness because ruthenium is rather difficult to produce due to its particular chemical-physical characteristics and for this reason it is included in the classification of rare and precious metals. It belongs to the platinum group, to which it is added to obtain a very resistant but less precious alloy: today ruthenium has a market value of around 4 euros per gram and is mainly used in electronics.

It is a very good hardener for palladium and platinum and greatly improves the corrosion resistance of titanium when added in small quantities. It is also used in alloys with cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, tungsten and other metals. In short, since it is quite used on F1, here it also ended up on Jeans.

Is it enough to justify the price of 1800 euros? It depends on how much passion you have for the prancing horse. These trousers are in fact made in Italy and are part of an exclusive Limited Edition: each piece is numbered and produced in a limited edition which certifies its excellence and uniqueness. And they are shipped home in a refined red box with the black pony. And then, the rear loop has a gigantic Ferrari emblem in relief: you know, when enthusiasts see a prancing horse, whether in the middle of a steering wheel or on a pair of jeans, they often no longer understand anything.
