Nuremberg – According to the federal government’s plans, homeopathy should no longer be paid for by statutory health insurance companies. This means that patients become self-payers. You can take care of yourself privately with additional outpatient insurance.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has announced that homeopathic therapies will soon be removed from the catalog of statutory health insurance benefits. Until now, they have been paid or subsidized by most health insurance companies as a voluntary statutory benefit. According to Lauterbach’s plans, this should come to an end. Other services that have no medically proven benefit and whose effectiveness has not been scientifically proven could also fall victim to the federal government’s austerity measures. If you don’t want to miss out on natural remedies and alternative treatment options, you can take private precautions with additional outpatient insurance. “The benefits are contractually guaranteed in private health insurance and cannot be subsequently canceled or reduced by the insurance company,” explains group leader Thorsten Heiselbetz from uniVersa health insurance. Additional outpatient tariffs often include additional services, such as osteopathy, additional preventive examinations, vaccinations, individual health services (IGeL), glasses, contact lenses and laser eye treatment to correct myopia. Here too, statutory health insurance patients are usually self-payers and are exposed to financial co-payments, adds Heiselbetz.
