Second generation of the “intelligent” display made in Mountain View. The novelty is the introduction of a new Soli sensor to monitor sleep without resorting to a video camera or a wearable device. The technology based on the radar principle makes it possible to recognize the position and movements of the person. The device must be placed on the bedside table in the bedroom, it tracks the sleep of the person next to it (the possible partner is not detected). The report is useful, as explained during an online meeting with Google engineers, because it shows what really happens when we sleep. The moments of waking, deep sleep and breathing but also the temperature in the room and the variations in light. In addition, the system instructed by a team of scientists who followed guidelines provided by organizations such as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine provides suggestions that are compiled after an analysis of several nights of sleep. Sleep tracking on Nest Hub is available in preview at no cost until next year.

The display dims to help you rest and from the “Your evening” page you can play relaxing sounds to help you sleep. When it’s time to get up, Nest Hub’s Gradual Light Wake up gradually increases display lighting and ringer volume. And if you want to stay in bed a little longer, thanks to Motion Sense you can snooze the alarm with the wave of a hand.

How privacy works.
Motion Sense only detects movement, not bodies or faces, and the audio data related to coughing or snoring processed only on the device is not sent to Google’s servers. The service can be disabled, and a switch on the device physically disables the microphone. You can review or delete your sleep data at any time, which – in accordance with our commitment to privacy – is not used to send you personalized ads.

As for audio, the speaker in the new Nest Hub is based on the same audio technology as Nest Audio and delivers 50% more bass than the original model. Thanks to the integrated Thread radio technology, Nest Hub will work with the new connectivity standard developed by the Project Connected Home over IP working group. The device will be available in Italy at a price of 99.99 euros on the Google Store and at major consumer electronics retailers, starting May 5th.
