Antibiotic resistance risks turning into a real global emergency soon. Today, superbugs resistant to multiple classes of antibiotics kill more than a million people worldwide each year. And according to the WHO, by 2050 deaths could amount to more than 10 million: numbers comparable to those of oncological diseases. This at least in the absence of initiatives aimed at limiting the emergence and spread of resistant microorganisms, and at promoting the development of new therapies.
