Sports in summer: tips for training on hot days

The warm temperatures are slowly starting to arrive. But that’s no reason to let the training slide now. Five helpful tips to make sport a highlight in summer.

When the weather is nice outside, you can use it not only for excursions, walks or picnics, but also for a good workout. To ensure that your body can cope with this without any problems, we will give you helpful tips for exercising in summer temperatures.

5 things you should consider when exercising in summer

Don’t want to neglect sport in the summer? You don’t even have to. As long as you keep a few things in mind, any workout here will be just as good as in the winter – if not better.

1. Drinking is key

It may sound like a cliché, but it’s also really important: When exercising in the summer, make sure to drink enough water before, during and after training. The body sweats more in hot temperatures than on colder days, which is why we have to compensate for the loss of fluids so that all important functions in the body can be maintained.

2. Don’t exercise in the midday heat

In summer, early mornings and cool evenings are considered the optimal time for training. Above all, you should avoid the midday heat, as this is where the body is particularly put to the test.

3. No heavy meal before training

If we eat a lot on hot days, it quickly becomes heavy in our stomachs. If we also want to do sports, that’s usually not a good idea. Instead, rely on light fruits and vegetables, which also provide you with vitamins and minerals.

4. If necessary, stop training

Even if you’ve just started, listen to your body’s signals. Sometimes they just don’t want to do it like we do – then you should stop doing sports in the summer rather than risk health problems.

5. Wear the right clothes

Clothing is also crucial so that we can feel completely comfortable while exercising in the summer. Sweatpants and a sweater made of thick cotton fabric are probably not the right idea. Choose functional clothing that absorbs sweat directly and wicks it away.

Should you do exercise when it’s 30 degrees?

When it’s 30 degrees outside, it can be a big challenge and change for the body. If we then want to do sport, there is an additional burden on top. In principle, you can do sports in the summer even at 30 degrees, but you should pay particular attention to your body and reduce your training heart rate by up to ten percent. Also make sure you drink enough fluids and take breaks. Many gyms are air-conditioned, so you can exercise in pleasant temperatures.

When is it too hot for exercise?

There is no one temperature limit for exercise in summer because every body reacts differently to heat. So you should just take care of yourself and do what feels good for you. Some people can still do sports without any problems even at 35 degrees, while others simply lose their circulation. If you follow our tips above, then exercising in the summer won’t be a problem.
