Apple TV stops Android TV paid subscriptions, suspected Apple is dissatisfied with Google’s commission policy

Foreign media The Verge reported that Apple TV suddenly canceled Android TV film and television rental, purchase, and subscription services. The reason is suspected to be related to Google’s collection of platform fees.

The above incident affects devices that use Google TV, such as 2020 Chromecast, Sony and TCL brand TVs. The ability to rent, buy, and subscribe to Apple TV+ in the Apple TV app for these devices has been removed. At present, the movie and TV options in the app have also been removed, but the movie and TV data can still be searched. After clicking, the “How To Watch” guide will appear, guiding users to subscribe to Apple TV on iPhone, iPad and other devices.

The foreign media The Verge contacted both Google and Apple, suspecting that the reason is that Apple is dissatisfied with the platform fee charged by Google users for in-app purchase payments, so Apple removed the device purchase and payment functions in protest. After the update, users can still rent and purchase Apple TV video content on Roku system devices. Smart TVs such as Samsung and LG, and game consoles such as Xbox and PlayStations are not affected.
