AUSL Modena – Death of a newborn baby at the complex Obstetrics and Gynecology facility of the “Ramazzini” hospital in Carpi

The Local Health Authority of Modena announces that yesterday morning, 25 February, the death of a newborn baby unfortunately occurred in the complex Obstetrics and Gynecology facility of the “Ramazzini” hospital in Carpi. In providing the useful elements for describing what happened, the Company Management together with all the professionals involved intends first of all to express its condolences and heartfelt closeness to the parents; in particular, the entire department is united with the family, asking for maximum respect for the moment of mourning they are experiencing.

The mother, in a physiological state of pregnancy, visited Carpi Hospital at 9.35 am on the previous day for a check-up which, after careful observation, gave regular results and was therefore correctly sent home; she herself she had also logged in on February 23rd, which was always correct. In fact, it is worth underlining that women are expressly urged by the professionals themselves to contact the Department in case of any doubt and that this happens on average several times close to giving birth, even in conditions of physiological pregnancy. She had therefore been monitored for the previous two days and no abnormalities had been found.

Early on Sunday morning the woman contacted the Carpi Hospital reporting the onset of contractions, the midwife therefore invited her to go to the hospital where she was immediately taken care of by the team of the Obstetrics and Gynecology operational unit who , after the necessary checks and all the procedures required by the protocols, ordered the caesarean section to be carried out; Unfortunately, at birth the little girl had no vital signs.

A large and qualified team was put in place for the assistance, made up of three gynaecologists, including the acting director. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, five midwives, three anesthetists, four paediatricians including the director of Paediatrics: although at various times the team ensured constant management of the situation, this unfortunately had an unfortunate outcome, which, albeit in a few cases , it can still occur despite all the procedures implemented.

The Local Health Authority, asking for the utmost respect for the family and for the professionals who share in his pain, rejects the declarations that associate this event with the closure of the Mirandola Birth Centre. The skills put into play ensured the best possible assistance at the Carpi birth point.
