The Municipality of Modena has granted the ASL free of charge surface rights on Villa Montecuccoli, of which he is the owner, for a duration of fifty years and for the same duration he granted free use to the Modena Hospice Foundation of a portion of the building, adjacent to the villa (former Limonaia) to allow the Foundation to carry out the services in hospice support including i training courses for volunteers. In 2022, the Foundation began, in collaboration with the Local Health Authority, to organize training courses for volunteering in palliative care, in hospice and at home: to date, around fifty people have participated, some of whom are completing the phase advanced course.

The total cost of the work for the construction of the hospice amounts to 5.9 million of euros deriving mostly from state funds and the remainder from funding from the Emilia-Romagna Region. The structure that will host the Foundation was built with funds raised by the Hospice Foundation through various solidarity initiatives.

The structure will be up three floors (for approximately 1700 gross square meters) and will have 14 beds in addition to related services, the technical rooms and changing rooms for operators. Each room will be equipped with TV, equipped private bathroom, air conditioning, free wi-fi and relaxation armchair for guests and family members, there will also be a relaxation area with herbal tea room, TV, kitchen, lounge, living room and two easily accessible terraces and outside a large park with shaded areas. The hospice will be easily accessible by public and private transport and the proximity to the Baggiovara hospital facilitates synergy between the structures based on the patient’s needs.

Patient care will be guaranteed by nurses present 24 hours a day with social and healthcare workers and depending on the needs identified they will intervene physiotherapists, psychologists and other professional figures. The hospice will be in contact with all the nodes of the provincial palliative care network coordinated by Doctor Paolo Vacondio of the Modena Local Health Authority, and will liaise with the Territorial Operations Center (COT) for the management of waiting lists.

“We are proud to announce the start of work on a structure, strongly desired by citizens, which will be a fundamental support for people in an advanced stage of the disease and their families – underlines the General Director of ASL Modena Anna Maria Petrinithanks once again to the Municipality of Modena, whose collaboration allows us to expand local social and health services, and thanks to the support of the Cristina Pivetti Dignity for Life Hospice Foundation whose volunteers accompany us in bringing relief to sick people.
With the territorial hospice of Baggiovara we complete the provincial planning which includes three city structures in the North, Center and South, inserted and connected in the provincial palliative care network”.
