This year, prizes go to “Flüsterpost eV – Support for children of parents with cancer” from Mainz, to the online platform “Krebs Campus” from Leipzig and the non-profit organization FLUGKRAFT from Rhauderfehn. All winning organizations receive a check for 10,000 euros. Audience voting for further winnings of 15,000 euros starts now

yeswecan!cer – Germany’s largest digital self-help group – is honoring three outstanding organizations by patients for patients for the second time together with the German Postcode Lottery: This year, the “YES!AWARD – SHINE A LIGHT” goes to “Flüsterpost eV – Support for children of parents with cancer” from Mainz, to the online platform “Krebs Campus” from Leipzig and the non-profit organization FLUGKRAFT from Rhauderfehn. Each of the organizations can already look forward to prize money of 10,000 euros. In addition, public voting is now starting on yeswecan-cer.org. The winning organization will then receive a further 15,000 euros to support their work. The prizes will be awarded at Germany’s largest cancer convention – YES!CON – on May 4th and 5th at the Telekom representative office in Berlin.

“As different as the three organizations are, they are united by the mission that we have also taken up as our mission: they all implement the yeswecan!cer message with their work and live it with and for the patients : #dubisnotalone,” says yeswecan!cer founder Jörg A. Hoppe.

yeswecan!cer awarded the prize together with the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie as a partner for the first time last year, supporting three organizations with a total of 45,000 euros.

“We are very pleased to be awarding the SHINE A LIGHT AWARD, which we co-founded and sponsored, for the second time and to honor innovative initiatives for those affected by cancer and at the same time to shine a light on those who have shown impressive commitment to this “We have created inspiring offers for sick people and their relatives,” says Friederike Behrends, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the German Postcode Lottery. “They are fantastic encouragers who show how to help, strengthen cohesion and thus make the world better for those affected.”

And here is an overview of the information about the individual winning organizations:

Flüsterpost eV – Support for children of parents with cancer:

The Robert Koch Institute estimates that up to 50,000 children in Germany are confronted with a parent’s cancer diagnosis every year. Who will help them cope with the emotional stress? Flüsterpost eV has been advising affected families since 2003: The association has already provided support to 3,711 families with 5,932 children. Flüsterpost offers individual, couple and family conversations nationwide, confidentially and free of charge, including via video call. The members carry out prevention work at daycare centers and schools and strengthen the lobby of the families of cancer patients. The mental and physical burden on relatives is still underestimated. Affected children run the risk of becoming traumatized or ill themselves. Whisperpost wants to prevent this.

Krebs Campus

Founder Dr. Babett Baraniec wants to use her learning platform to make members experts in their own illness. She knows from her own experience how important it is to be able to communicate with doctors on an equal level. Video courses, workbooks and forms make it possible to integrate the knowledge directly into everyday life with cancer. In addition, the active community of the Krebs Campus offers regular exchange and advice. A 12-week program is currently being developed for newly diagnosed cancer patients. It is intended to provide quick orientation, help with the first moment of shock and give hope and confidence for the first period of therapy.

Flight power

Last year the non-profit organization celebrated its tenth anniversary. Giving strength and creating moments of happiness – that is the mission of Flugkraft. Cancer patients and their relatives receive a wide range of support: financial support, everyday help or individually equipped “power packs” provide stability. Photo sessions and styling workshops promote self-confidence. And for some, a heartfelt wish comes true. As part of family weekends, Flugkraft gives sick people and their relatives a carefree break, and pilot Jan Bukowski enables his passengers to take emotional flights of fancy in his Cessna.
