Breast cancer: the novelty of the unique intervention

by admin

With the advice of prof. ORESTE CLAUDIO BUONOMO, associate professor of general surgery and head of breast surgery at the Tor Vergata University of Rome; we observe the novelties of the single intervention.

In addressing a breast cancer, a woman focuses all her energies on treatment. Many experience a conflict between what they know must be done to eliminate evil and the fear of being defaced. Others, on the other hand, postpone these concerns to the “after”, while agreeing that self-image is very important for continuing care with optimism.

Interesting news comes right from the front from surgery, where we are increasingly moving towards an “immediate” solution, or rather a single one surgery which includes both the removal of the tumor and the reconstruction of the breast tissue. Excellent results are offered by the technique of Opt (One time projection).

Who is it suitable for? There are specific conditions:

  • the tumor must be small in size,
  • diagnosed early,
  • the patient’s breasts should not be very large.

How the intervention takes place

intervention-by-Ross

  1. The intervention And unique: both removal of the tumor and reconstruction of the breast tissue with the prosthesis, without the use of any skin extender.
  2. It lasts about 90 minutes. Thanks to the use of autologous tissues (traceable in the thoracic area, generally remaining following the mastectomy) allows the woman affected by breast cancer to get back a more natural breast in aesthetic terms, with a consistent shape and volume of the breast.
  3. All this is possible thanks to a biological membrane from animal origin (also used for other reconstructive interventions) which covers the prosthesis, saving as much muscle tissue as possible.
  4. The breast is totally reconstructed including the nipple area. A simple, quick method that does not add other scars. In some patients, however, whose nipple has been removed, it will be necessary to intervene after a few months on an outpatient basis with a dermopigmentation by means of a tattoo.

I benefits I’m really notable. This is an innovative method, which has already given excellent results because it tends to damage the muscle tissue minimally.

In addition to allowing the avoidance of two reconstructive interventions, the advantages of the Opt are above all linked to the psychological impact: the woman immediately finds herself with a breast that has a shape and a volume recovered, with a scar that is barely visible. All this is very beneficial to the path to recovery for the benefit of psychophysical well-being and a faster return to normal daily activities.
