The legalization of cannabis is finally through. But please no howls of triumph from the legalize-it front. Because the matter is delicate and somewhat messed up.

Cannabis will finally become at least partially legal, the Bundestag has decided. Let them smoke weed. People want to make their existence fun or bearable, to rush out of their cage. To get a text from the New York Times to quote from 1892: Banning stimulants and intoxicants would be as promising as trying to prevent railway accidents by urging travelers to stay at home. We are talking about a basic human need to escape from reality, which has existed since we no longer have full-body fur.
