CASALMAIOCCO The champion of vaccinations against meningitis passes away at the age of 45

Antonella Salimbene, a champion of vaccination against meningitis, has passed away at the age of 45 in Casalmaiocco. Salimbene lost her 11-year-old daughter, Azzurra, to meningitis in 2014, and since then had been dedicated to promoting prevention and advocating for widespread vaccination against the disease.

Working as an Oss at the Vizzolo hospital, Salimbene also actively participated in the front lines during the pandemic, lending a hand in Sordio for serological screenings for Covid. She was a vocal advocate for vaccination and even appeared on television to advocate for her cause on “Piazza Pulita.”

On the morning of her passing, Salimbene fell ill in bed, and her daughter quickly noticed and called for emergency help. She performed resuscitation maneuvers with great courage until paramedics arrived, but despite being rushed to Humanitas, there was nothing more that could be done for her.

The entire community of Casalmaiocco is in shock and disbelief following Salimbene’s sudden passing. Her dedication to promoting vaccination and disease prevention has left a lasting impact on those around her. Salimbene leaves behind an eighth-grade daughter and a fourth-grade son.

Her legacy will continue to inspire others to advocate for widespread vaccination and disease prevention in her honor. © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
