Catholic University of Temuco to Open Medicine Degree in 2024
After three years of dedicated work on an academic project, the Medicine degree at the Catholic University of Temuco (UCT) is set to open its doors in 2024. This endeavor aims to benefit the community in southern Chile, addressing the region’s specific healthcare needs.
The UCT, which has been in existence for 64 years and boasts almost 13 thousand students, considers this academic project to be one of its most significant initiatives. In addition to the Medicine degree, the university will offer 46 undergraduate courses, a bachelor’s degree in Sciences and Humanities, and a Common Plan Civil Engineering program in its 2024 campus offerings.
The focus of the Medicine program is on training doctors specialized in family, community, and intercultural health, aligning with the unique requirements of the region. It’s important to note that, currently, Medicine is only taught in the southern part of Chile in the cities of Temuco, Valdivia, Puerto Montt, and Punta Arenas.
Aliro Bórquez, the Rector of the university, emphasized the significance of this new offer in the field of medicine, stating that it comes with a solid project that requires substantial investments from the University. He also highlighted the institution’s training profile, characterized by its Catholic, humanist, and Christian values, which will be reflected in the training of the 60 students set to enroll in the program.
Furthermore, the Medicine project has received direct contributions and advice from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, with whom the UCT signed a Collaboration Agreement in August. Dr. Ignacio Sánchez, the rector of UC, expressed the willingness of his institution to work together on this development and praised the UCT for its growth in quality and relevance in various courses.
In addition to the academic collaboration, the UCT’s new academic proposal brings forth a robust infrastructure investment, exceeding 14 million dollars. This includes the construction of a modern Clinical Simulation Hospital and a Teaching Pavilion, both reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Amidst these developments, the UCT has also opened enrollment for the TEC-UCT Technological Institute, offering five technical-university courses. These courses aim to train university technicians with a strong ethical foundation and a respect for environmental diversity, contributing to the development of the territory and society.
The UCT’s new endeavors are poised to make significant contributions to healthcare, education, and sustainability in southern Chile, setting a high standard for academic and ethical excellence.
