Brazil and Argentina hit by Dengue outbreak

Brazil and Argentina have been hit hard by an outbreak of Dengue, a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. According to a report published by the Ministry of Health, Brazil has exceeded the threshold of 2 million cases in 2024, marking a historic record for the country.

Meanwhile, Argentina is also feeling the impact of the Dengue outbreak. From the end of July 2023 to mid-March of this year, at least 106 deaths and more than 151 thousand infections have been recorded in the country.

Dengue is a serious illness that can lead to severe complications and even death if not treated promptly. Symptoms of Dengue include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and rash.

Health authorities in both countries are urging the public to take precautions to prevent the spread of Dengue, including eliminating standing water where mosquitoes can breed, using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using mosquito nets while sleeping.

The outbreak serves as a stark reminder of the importance of mosquito control measures in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to contain the outbreak before it escalates further.
