In Valledupar there are 42 critical points for irregular garbage disposal, according to the Mayor’s Office of Valledupar, which had to establish 4 sites in different parts of the city for pruning waste because plant waste is among the most voluminous. .
These places are: El Tarullal lot, southeast of the city, the property behind Mercabastos, a piece of land on the access road to the El Porvenir urbanization, and another lot on the way to the La Mesa district, near Don Alberto Park.
In addition, the municipal administration issued a series of sanctions for those who fail to comply with the cleaning and waste disposal regulations because garbage in inappropriate places has become a health problem for the city and a burden for the collection service operator.
TONS OF GARBAGE
According to the manager of Aseo del Norte, Mauricio Muriel, among the 42 critical points the company collects almost 3,000 tons of garbage monthly: “We carry out interventions according to schedules. So we are working throughout the city on monthly schedules and we are approximately covering 3,000 tons.”
One of the affected places borders Brisas de la Popa, where inhabitants of that irregular settlement, but also forklift drivers and truck drivers, come to throw all types of waste that contaminate the environment.
Based on the monthly data, it is possible to calculate that the amount of garbage that the company collects throughout the year exceeds thirty thousand tons.
THE ADMINISTRATION MUST INTERVENE
“We started to carry out a cleaning process that should be solved or handled by the municipal administration itself because what happens is due to a matter of authority, decrees, and citizen behavior, and Aseo del Norte does not receive any payment from the administration for those critical points,” added the manager.
Despite the cleanups, the accumulation continues, according to the environmental engineer: “One cannot talk about eradication until the waste stops arriving.” However, there is expectation about the impact that the authorization of the 4 sites may have for the issue of pruning and the pedagogical and economic sanctions for poor disposal of ordinary waste.
However, there is still a lack of clarity regarding the regulation of household debris that emerges daily from the constructions and remodeling that citizens do in their homes and which also tend to be poorly managed.
