European recommendations on the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. « Medicine in the Library

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a type of blood and bone marrow cancer that affects lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. This form of leukemia is characterized by the rapid growth of immature lymphocytes called lymphoblasts. Typical symptoms include tiredness, fever, weight loss, bone pain, and swollen lymph nodes.

The consensus recommendations from leading European experts for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in adults have been published as a two-part special report in the journal “Blood”.

The Part 1 deals with diagnostics, prognostic factors and assessments of progress in ALL. Standards for classification and evaluation in the context of clinical trials were also defined here.

The part 2 covers the entire management. The spectrum ranges from induction and consolidation therapy to the use of new substances, stem cell transplantation, relapse therapy, treatment of special ALL subgroups up to the late effects of therapy and supportive treatment.
