Terni Hospital reports case of Dengue Fever, Anti-mosquito Disinfestation in Progress

Today, the Terni Hospital received a notification regarding a case of Dengue Fever in a 50-year-old lady residing in the municipality of Terni and hospitalized at the “Santa Maria” facility. In response to this, the National Plan for prevention, surveillance, and response to Arbovirosis (PNA) 2020-2025 has proposed an extraordinary anti-mosquito disinfestation of the area to prevent potential secondary infections carried by the Aedes albopictus, also known as the tiger mosquito, which is responsible for transmitting the virus.

Dengue Fever is caused by four similar viruses and is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. The virus circulates in the blood of the infected person for 2-7 days, during which time mosquitoes can pick it up and transmit it to others. As a precaution, citizens are urged to remove any containers of uncovered water from their surroundings and to use larvicidal products in drains.

The Municipality of Terni’s Environment Directorate has announced that a mosquito disinfestation will take place this evening in the streets and adjacent areas of Strada San Martino and via Aurelio Saffi. Residents are advised to take precautions during this time: clothes should not be left outside to dry, doors and windows should remain closed, domestic animals should be kept indoors, swimming pools covered or emptied, and food for animals protected.

The disinfestation is expected to last approximately 2 hours, with additional precautions needed for the following 2 hours. It is important for residents to follow these guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
