Sleep disorders are a worldwide problem. According to current studies, 40 million people in Germany and Austria are affected. Prof. Helmut Teschler has developed a holistic approach to online sleep testing based on a validated survey methodology. After the patient enters the information, the presence of a possible sleep disorder and the associated severity are analyzed in just a few seconds.
“From a health and economic perspective, sleep disorders are the world‘s largest widespread disease. People with chronic sleep disorders in German-speaking countries are blatantly under- and incorrectly cared for. Dreep’s aim is to use the scientifically proven findings of sleep medicine to provide low-threshold offers for all those affected to provide sound sleep medical care,” says sleep doctor Prof. Helmut Teschler.
The results of the clinical study at Essen University Medical Center show that the algorithm detects both the type and severity of the possible sleep disorder with a reliability of up to 91 percent. The results of the online sleep test in patients were compared with a stay in the sleep laboratory (PSG) and a specialist diagnosis.
With the online sleep test, quicker diagnoses can be made in medical practice and the right treatment steps can be initiated at an early stage. Polysomnography can be used more specifically if the test shows a high probability of a chronic sleep disorder. The other advantages include faster professional care for patients, relief for medical staff and a significant reduction in costs for the healthcare system.
The aim is now to make the online sleep test dreep® available as a scientifically recognized tool to as many affected people as possible. This will significantly improve sleep medical care. The details of the study were published in February 2024 in the journal “Somnology”.[1] published.
