Avis Provinciale di Treviso and LILT join forces to offer free breast cancer screenings

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Avis Provinciale di Treviso and LILT-Italian League for the fight against tumors have come together to launch a vital initiative aimed at Avisine donors and volunteers. The initiative will provide free breast screenings for the prevention of breast cancer, starting with donors in the municipalities of Opitergino Mottense between the ages of 18 and 49 who are typically excluded from routine screenings.

The initiative will be officially introduced to the public on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:30 pm in Oderzo with an information meeting titled “Let’s donate prevention” at Palazzo Foscolo. The event will feature experts in breast health, including specialist Christian Rizzetto, radiologist Eleonora Di Gaetano, oncologist Stefano Lamon, and Dr. Alessandro Gava, president of the Provincial Lilt of Treviso. The evening will delve into topics such as cancer prevention, treatment, and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles for overall well-being.

Over the past eight years, Treviso has seen 7,000 cases of diagnosed breast cancer, with the highest incidence occurring in women aged 70-74. However, there has been a noticeable increase in cases among women aged 45-49. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, accounting for 30% of all female cancers, but early detection significantly improves the chances of recovery.

Stefano Pontello, president of Avis Provinciale di Treviso, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Thanks to the collaboration with LILT, we are able to kick off this prevention initiative that will span several years and reach all territories in the province. We are committed to investing in cancer prevention by providing check-ups through LILT for our donors. This initiative in Opitergino Mottense is just the beginning, with a focus on younger women to give them the attention and tools they need for their health.”

Dr. Alessandro Gava, president of the Provincial Lilt of Treviso, emphasized the importance of involving Avis donors in promoting prevention measures. “By partnering with Avis, we can effectively communicate prevention messages to a larger audience, given the association’s widespread presence in the Treviso area. This initiative not only aims to provide screenings but also educate younger women on self-examination and the importance of regular check-ups.”

The collaboration between Avis Provinciale di Treviso and LILT signifies a significant step towards promoting breast cancer awareness and prevention in the Treviso region. The partnership’s ongoing efforts will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on the community’s health and well-being.
