Berlin: (hib/PK) The AfD parliamentary group is calling for initiatives to increase the willingness to donate blood. According to a bill (20/10373) from the parliamentary group, around 15,000 blood donations are needed every day for operations, the treatment of serious illnesses and to care for accident victims.
Only two million people donated blood regularly. This corresponds to a share of only around 2.4 percent of the total population.
In order to counteract the low willingness to donate, the MPs are calling for a minimum amount of 75 euros to be set for blood donors’ expense allowance in Section 10 of the Transfusion Act. If the current legal situation were to be retained, Germany’s dependence on foreign imports would become more entrenched.
