Berlin: (hib/PK) Most of the approximately 1,900 hospitals in Germany are heated with natural gas. This emerges from the answer (20/7493) of the federal government to a small question (20/7176) by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
Referring to a climate protection survey by the German Hospital Institute (DKI), the federal government announced that natural gas dominates at 92 percent of the energy sources used. District heating and light heating oil are used as energy sources in about half of the hospitals. Local heating and heavy fuel oil are used in less than ten percent of the facilities surveyed.
According to the information, other sources of energy are wood chips and hot water. The simultaneous use of energy sources is possible. The survey results also show that around two thirds of the hospitals use a gas boiler to generate heat.
