Intestinal viruses and respiratory diseases, alert throughout Italy: 30-50 year olds at risk

Italy is on high alert as the country faces a surge in respiratory and intestinal diseases in March 2024. With the changing temperatures and transition from dry to wet, many Italians are falling ill with viruses and infections.

Pierluigi Bartoletti, deputy national secretary of the Italian Federation of general practitioners (Fimmg), has issued a warning about the arrival of Influenza B, which typically affects children and teenagers during March and April. He advises the public to stay hydrated, eat frugally, and be patient in order to protect their bodies.

One of the main concerns in Italy is the spread of an intestinal virus, affecting both adults and children. The virus is easily transmitted through contact with an infected person, contaminated objects, or contaminated food and water. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, headache, general malaise, and abdominal pain. While fever is not a common symptom, it can indicate a more severe form of the virus.

Prevention measures such as frequent hand washing with soap are recommended to avoid contracting the virus. The duration of the illness typically lasts a few days, but in more severe cases, it can last up to a week. It is important to seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or persist.

With the disappearance of Covid from the radar, Italians are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid falling ill with seasonal diseases and viruses. Stay informed and prioritize your health during this challenging time.
