Former Bodybuilder Athlete with Excellent Arterial Condition Seeks Miraculous Treatment
Former bodybuilder athlete, age 53, with a cholesterol level of 140, low blood pressure, and a healthy weight and height, recently received a Doppler ultrasound examination that revealed perfectly smooth carotid arteries. However, the angiologist’s report also mentioned “minimal intimal thickening compatible with age,” leaving the individual questioning what this means and whether a certain enzyme called nattokinase could provide miraculous effects on the arteries.
Pietro Palermo, head of the Rehabilitation Cardiology Unit at the Monzino Cardiology Center, Milan, provided insights into the individual’s arterial condition. He explained that the minimal thickening observed in the innermost part of the vessel is indeed compatible with age and is not clinically significant. Palermo emphasized that factors such as smoking habits, high cholesterol, diabetes, arterial hypertension, sedentary lifestyle, and family history can contribute to the deterioration of arterial integrity, and encouraged the individual to continue with exercise and a healthy diet.
In response to the inquiry about nattokinase, Palermo discussed the traditional Japanese food, natto, and the enzyme nattokinase, which is believed to have fibrinolytic properties that could potentially dissolve atherosclerotic plaque and reduce artery obstruction. However, he noted that the effects of nattokinase have only been observed in blood samples, and not in the human body. He also highlighted issues with the molecule’s absorption and suggested that the “miraculous” effects on the arteries can only be attributed to a correct lifestyle, involving exercise and a healthy diet.
Overall, while the individual’s arterial condition was found to be excellent, the potential for nattokinase to provide miraculous effects on the arteries remains unproven. Palermo’s advice of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and a nutritious diet stands as the most reliable approach to maintaining arterial health.
