Istat, over 50% of elderly people with three chronic diseases. And it was before Covid

AROUND 7 million over-65s, more than one in two, suffer from at least three chronic diseases. And one in five times it is heart disease. It is the snapshot of the health of the elderly from Istat. A snapshot taken in 2019, that is a moment before multi-morbidity, as we have learned to call the simultaneous presence of multiple diseases typical of the elderly, transformed the elderly into the main victims of Covid19: in terms of hospitalizations, suffering and of mortality.
