IT security. Lazio opens the Regional Higher Education School on Cyber-Security

The Lazio Region takes cover and opens a “higher education” school on cybersecurity. In recent months, in the public and private sectors, awareness of the risks associated with the management of networks, information systems and IT services has grown. Also and above all following serious accidents, including the attack suffered by the Region itself between July and August, in addition to those carried out against companies of the caliber of Geox and Enel. And so, together with the National Cybersecurity Agency, the Lazio Region also thought the time had come for an action to strengthen the security levels of the cyber space of a key area of ​​the country.

“The good outcome of the 2014/2020 fund programming in Lazio has led to a large increase in the resources allocated to the new 2021/2027 cycle. It goes from 2 billion and 700 million to 4 billion and 400 million ”, he explains Nicola Zingaretti, president of the Lazio Region. “In the training part it is our goal to invest thinking about society and the needs of the future. Green economy, digitalization also require radical changes in training courses. Together with the problems, new opportunities will be created which will require highly qualified competence. For this reason, innovation will be radical in traditional paths and in the search for new and unprecedented courses for new professions. From this point of view, the Cybersecurity School will be the forerunner of a new season of innovation. ”

The Regional Higher Education School on Cyber-Security should be active, at least in an experimental form, within six months. According to the region led by Zingaretti, it will be the fulcrum of a complex and articulated system of relationships with various subjects: on the one hand the training institutions and the research and development centers of excellence on cyber security issues, on the other the public and private individuals who will gradually be able to accommodate the offer of qualified professionals trained at the school. But from the very beginning, high schools, public universities in Lazio, the Agency for national cyber-security, the Agency for digital Italy, companies in the telecommunications sector will be called upon to collaborate.

The training offer will be divided into a series of courses divided into several professional fields including Data Protection and Critical Infrastructure Protection. At the end, there will be the release of regional qualification and competence Certifications valid pursuant to decree 13/2013: “IT security expert”. The goal is to develop qualified skills in the field of cybersecurity, also through the launch of dedicated training courses and the empowerment of the workforce.

According to the latest report by the Cybersecurity Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano, last year closed with yet another increase in threats to large companies. In 2020, spending on security solutions reached a value of 1.37 billion euros, up 4% compared to the previous year. The investments were mainly linked to the management of the emergency and the protection of remote work and, by many, they are still judged insufficient to secure the country.
