Medicine Test, 21% more places in two years: 14,020 admissions in 2021

by admin

Finally, the puzzle of the entrance tests for limited number courses is composed. Except for the health professions (both three-year and master’s), the ministry of the University has defined the rules of the quizzes and, above all, the places available for the September tests. Medicine immediately stands out, reaching 14,020 availability for the 2021/22 academic year, with an increase of 7% on 2020/21 and 21% on 2019/20, i.e. the pre-pandemic period. The slots for Dentistry and Primary Education Sciences are also growing, whereas those for Architecture (which, compared to two years ago, loses more than 6%) and, slightly, for Veterinary, which loses 13 units compared to the last edition but remains above 2019/20.

The slots for aspiring doctors

The most anticipated data concerned Medicine. Both for the historical discrepancy between the (many) candidates and the (few) places available, and for the importance that the training of health personnel has regained during the coronavirus emergency. Well, there has been the expected increase in the limited number. Although not to the extent requested by the Regions, which had set the bar of needs at 14,332 while the Federation of doctors (Fnomceo) had stopped at 11 thousand. In the end, the Mur settled on 14,020 availability, surpassing the 13,072 of last year. A balance of 948 units which almost half (400) depends on the activation of the new faculties of Medicine and Surgery in the Lum universities of Casamassima (Bari), Salento di Lecce, Basilicata di Potenza and Calabria di Rende (Cosenza).

Without prejudice to the fact that the figure is not definitive, because the State-Regions agreement is still missing (theoretically expected by 30 April), the growth is even more significant when compared to the 11,568 of 2019/20. Especially since the definitive figure could even rise to 15 thousand since all the slots reserved for non-EU students and possibly remaining vacant can be redistributed among EU citizens. No news, however, for the type of quiz that is scheduled for September 3 (9 is for tests in English,ed

) and follows the pattern of last year: of the 60 questions to be answered in 100 minutes, 12 are of general culture, 10 of logic, 18 of biology, 12 of chemistry and 8 of physics and mathematics. To register, through the portal www.universitaly.it, there is time until 3pm on 22 July.

The other courses are limited

The same deadline is also valid for taking part in the entry tests for Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. While the former are the same as those provided for Medicine, the latter – always 60 questions with 100 minutes available – are composed as follows: 12 of general culture, 10 of logic, 16 of biology, 16 of chemistry and 6 of physics and mathematics. On the other hand, the trend of available seats is reversed. With Dentistry going from 1,231 to 1,253 in the last year (+ 1.8%, which however becomes + 10% when compared to the pre-pandemic period) and Veterinary going down from 890 last year to 877, still remaining above 753 of 2019/20. On the other hand, the decline in Architecture is constant (the test of which is organized on a local basis and must be carried out by 23 September): 6,349 availability currently, against 6,435 in 2020/21 and 6,802 two years ago. A trend opposite to primary education sciences which rises to 7,884 slots (+ 2.1% in one year, + 11.6% on 2019/20) and whose admission test has just been moved from 16 to 17 September.
