Meta has 300,000 subscribers on the Horizon metaverse

Horizon, Meta’s virtual reality platform, the first approach to the metaverse, reaches the threshold of 300,000 subscribers. The initiative was launched at the beginning of December in the United States and Canada on Oculus Quest 2, to date the only virtual reality (VR) headset that fully supports navigation in three-dimensional worlds on which Mark Zuckerberg is aiming for the future of his companies.

During an employee meeting, Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox confirmed that since Horizon was released, the monthly user base has grown 10-fold. The project is not yet a single metaverse, rather it includes three separate applications, Horizon World, Venues and Worksrooms. World is the place to create VR environments to explore freely while Venues is designed for watching live events. The third project part of the Horizon ecosystem is Worksrooms, the VR space that allows teams to get to know each other, collaborate and develop ideas, dedicated to the world of work.

The three apps are independent and published on the Oculus digital store. The first to arrive was Worlds, available in the course of 2021 by invitation only, in the form of a private beta, with the aim of allowing developers to test the tools for creating buildings and worlds. Similarly to very popular video games like Roblox and Minecraft, Worlds allows you to build custom environments where you can meet friends and challenge them in mini games, in the form of avatars visible only from the waist up. Meta announced that 10,000 separate worlds have been made in Horizon Worlds to date while the private group dedicated to developers on Facebook has over 20,000 members.
