Morning routine: Five simple routines will help you start your day off right

There are early risers who are really fit in the morning. And there are people who tend to fall into the morning grouch category. Without gallons of coffee, lots of rest and the odd snarky comment, almost nothing happens for them before 10 a.m.

If you can’t get out of bed well in the morning, help is finally here in the form of these five tips.

Turn on the music in the morning

Do you still know the good old radio alarm clock? The old school version had the disadvantage that you might wake up to the semi-euphoric sounds of “Mad World” or “Stop crying your heart out”.

With the iPhone you can easily wake up with your personal feel-good song: simply set a new alarm clock using the “plus” symbol in the alarm clock app and under the “Sound” item at the top a title instead of a melody select on your mobile phone. The next morning at seven o’clock your mood will be high.

Drink water before bed

Anyone who takes a good look at their (water) glass before going to bed will voluntarily stay away from the snooze button in the morning. The only problem: Before the trick really works well, you have to experiment with the optimal amount of water. Otherwise you risk having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Make yourself a good breakfast

Carbohydrates make you happy. Food in general too. That’s why breakfast (in the form of oatmeal, whole grain bread or occasionally cake) is a good way to start the day well in the morning.

A study by Allegheny College in the US state of Pennsylvania also found that omega-3 fatty acids in the form of walnuts, flax seeds or fish improve mood in the morning.

Clear your head – and do nice things

In principle, anything that clears your head can help you get out of the mood. Meditation (works in the evening and morning and especially in bed), a short yoga flow, a list of things we are grateful for or an evening to-do list for the next day in order to sleep peacefully and without worries , let us wake up refreshed and in a better mood.

If you think about something the evening before that you’re looking forward to the next day (visiting the farmer’s market, the homemade breakfast, the lunch date with your favorite colleagues), you have a good chance of being in a great mood.

Smile at yourself

Now it gets a little weird – but helpful: As soon as you get up, you should smile at yourself in the mirror. An effect called biofeedback sends the body a signal that you are in a good mood – and it adapts to it.

In plain language this means: If you pretend to be in a good mood for long enough (and watch yourself do it), your mood will actually noticeably improve.
