NASA uses Juno to draw a 3D view of Jupiter’s atmosphere

by admin

NASA’s “Juno” probe has a deeper understanding of Jupiter’s atmosphere. Scientists have developed the first 3D view of Jupiter to show the planet’s airflow mechanism in more detail. The results examined the cloud belt and the inner workings of the cloud belt surrounding the planet, as well as polar cyclones and the Great Red Spot.

In a statement, Lori Glaze, director of the Planetary Science Department at NASA’s Washington Agency Headquarters, said: “These new observations of Juno have opened up a new mysterious treasure trove of observable features of Jupiter. Each report shed light on different aspects of the planet’s atmospheric processes. It is a good example of our international diversified scientific team’s understanding of the solar system.”

The NASA Juno spacecraft entered orbit for the first time in 2016. Since then, the probe has orbited Jupiter 37 times, using special instruments to explore the clouds beneath Jupiter in each round. Juno’s lead researcher Scott Bolton said: “Before this, Juno had suggested that Jupiter’s atmosphere is deeper than expected. This surprised us. Now, we put all these separate parts together and put them together in 3D. For the first time, Form truly understands how Jupiter’s beautiful and fierce atmosphere works.”

Juno’s microwave radiometer (MWR) provides scientists with the ability to observe planetary clouds and vortex storms, the most representative of which is the Great Red Spot. The results show that the cyclone has a higher temperature and lower density at the top, and a colder and higher density at the bottom.
