Asklepios and PEG are moving together in purchasing

Long-standing cooperative member Asklepios allows PEG network partners to participate in its own supply concept. New procurement, purchasing and logistics concept “PEGtop” offers attractive conditions to outpatient and acute care facilities. In the future, more than 600 medical facilities will have access to a central infrastructure for the supply of medical consumables

München – The PEG purchasing and operating cooperative eG (PEG) and the Asklepios wholesale company mbH (AGH) are intensifying their cooperation and thus strengthening the basic cooperative idea of the PEG. To this end, Asklepios offers all PEG member houses the opportunity to ensure that their houses are supplied with medical consumables through improved purchasing conditions through Asklepios wholesale company mbH. Together with the PEG members, more than 600 other medical facilities can in the future be supplied via the AGH and thus also via the Asklepios central warehouse.

Asklepios, which has been part of the PEG network since 1990, is one of the leading private clinic operators with around 170 health facilities. As such, the company is one of the largest members of the PEG. “Our common goal is to ensure the supply of clinics and healthcare facilities and to ensure price stability,” says Kai Hankeln, CEO of Asklepios Kliniken GmbH & Co. KG aA. Its subsidiary Asklepios Wholesalesgesellschaft mbH has been operating a modern, fully automated high-bay warehouse for medical products since October 2022.

At the end of December, AGH and PEG signed contracts for strategic partnership and supply cooperation. “By working with PEG as an experienced purchasing and sales partner, we want to use our purchasing volume and the modern infrastructure of our central warehouse more effectively. In the future, increased purchasing volumes will allow us to shape the economic interests of healthcare facilities even more advantageously and to negotiate even better conditions,” explains Janis Gadanac, Head of Purchasing and Supply and Managing Director of AGH, the motivation for the cooperation.

“Not least against the background of generally increased purchasing prices, which the federal states have not compensated for with corresponding budget increases for the hospitals, the cost pressure on the clinics has increased significantly. This is also reflected in the hospital bankruptcies of the past year. Generating cost advantages together by bundling needs is an important piece of the mosaic in order to continue to ensure the high medical quality in the facilities in this economically difficult environment,” Gadanac continued.

In the AGH central warehouse, the requirements of clinics and outpatient facilities can be stocked for at least six months and ordered via a digital ordering platform. Bundling and central shipping also increase efficiency in the ordering process. In addition, the AGH also provides, among other things, in terms of sustainability: ensure compliance with all supply chain due diligence requirements. “Everyone involved will benefit from this, especially our member hospitals from the outpatient and acute markets,” adds Jens Leveringhaus, CEO of PEG.

Through its new “PEGtop” purchasing model, PEG will make the AGH care concept available to its network partners from the outpatient and acute sectors from mid-January 2024, under certain conditions. Included are services such as: E.g. logistics, IT connection, downstream support, etc. “We are pleased that in Asklepios we have found a partner who – like us – attaches great importance to sustainability and will enable us to supply products from the non-food sector in the future to offer economically attractive conditions,” says Jens Leveringhaus. “In this way, we are also fulfilling our members’ long-held wish to benefit more from each other,” explains Leveringhaus.

Over the coming weeks, PEG will present the new offer, which complements the existing “PEGplus” and “PEGclassic” models, to its members, provide detailed information about it and initiate the first pilot projects. Non-members can also benefit under certain conditions.
