Infections caused by bacteria are a major threat, with antibiotic-resistant bacteria becoming increasingly problematic. Despite this, there is a scarcity of investment in finding a solution, and few research groups focus on this area. De la Fuente’s Machine Biology Group is at the forefront of this research, utilizing innovative methods to develop synthetic molecules that could lead to new antibiotics.
De la Fuente’s contributions to the field have been widely acknowledged, with accolades such as being named the best young researcher in the US in 2020 and receiving the Princess of Girona Foundation Award for Scientific Research in 2021.
