Noelia García Achieves Highest Score in MIR Exam, Breaks Record
Year after year, thousands of candidates take the Resident Internal Doctor (MIR) exam in Spain. In 2024, a total of 13,990 people registered to take the test on January 20. Noelia García from Madrid, born in 1999, emerged as the top performer, achieving the best grade in the history of the MIR exam, breaking the previous record set in 2020.
García’s extraordinary performance is credited to her dedication and hard work. During her early years in medical school, she had contemplated changing her major but decided to continue with Medicine, a decision that ultimately led to her groundbreaking achievement in the MIR exam.
Her exceptional academic journey began with an intensive 17-month course at MIR Asturias, where she studied eight hours a day on average. She subsequently excelled in her studies from the third year until her sixth year in college, maintaining a brilliant average and graduating with an impressive score in the Selectividad exam, which led her to the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Outside of her studies, García enjoyed leisure activities such as reading fantasy sagas and playing video games, striking a balance between academic pursuits and personal interests.
The successful culmination of her efforts came when García obtained a record-breaking score of 186.67 net correct answers out of 200 questions in the MIR exam. She looks forward to specializing in dermatology or endocrinology and hopes to continue her career in Spain, citing her love for the country and her family and friends’ presence in San Sebastian de los Reyes as primary reasons for staying.
