Samsung has confirmed that its Exynos 2200 chip will introduce ray tracing to some mobile device systems in 2022. The chip will provide support for the rendering technology in a specific model of the Samsung Galaxy S22 device, and will use the GPU architecture based on AMD RDNA2.
In a Weibo post (reported via Android Central, the post on Weibo has now been deleted) the chip will use the same AMD system used in the RX 6000 series GPU and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X game consoles. The chip is called Pamir internally and is expected to be officially released early next year, and it will also power the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra when it hits the ground.
We will have to wait for the official announcement to hear more information about the official specifications of the Exynos chipset, even if the report does indicate that it will use “a single high-performance core, three mid-level cores, and four efficiency cores.”
