Technology at the service of man: the 5.0 revolution is upon us

by admin

The European Union argues that the fifth industrial revolution is imminent and will soon take the place of the fourth revolution, the more humane one, driven by the connection between physical and digital systems enabled by the Internet of Things, big data, the cloud, artificial intelligence and other 4.0 enabling technologies.

The EU outlines the future scenario in the document “Industry 5.0: towards a more sustainable, resilient and human-centered industry”. The document reports that the sustainability will be the keyword of 5.0, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 sustainable development goals divided into 169 targets and 240 indicators. To guarantee all its beneficial effects, explains the EU, sustainability can no longer be conceived as a mere environmental issue, but inserted within an integrated and inclusive political vision, capable of improving people’s living conditions. to ensure their full employment and decent work.

To develop sustainable consumption and production models, capable of combating climate change and its negative impact on society and the planet, the EU assigns a fundamental role to industry, defining it as a potential “resilient provider of prosperity“. In the report on Industry 5.0, the EU sees industry as one of the main engines of a new development based on total respect for the planet and for work, recognizing its ability to achieve social objectives and new paradigms for production that place the well-being of the worker at the center of the production process.

Among the main elements of the European approach to Industry 5.0 there is one new awareness which leads to a new responsibility. In this new scenario, the industry must play an accelerator role and catalyst for change and innovation, as a solution provider for our company. On the one hand, contributing to technological advancement through the development of innovative technologies that put people at the center, supporting and strengthening rather than replacing jobs. And on the other hand, becoming an attractive workplace for young talents looking for a solid and lasting professional life.

Another element: the industry can and must lead the green transition. The Green Deal has already set strict environmental objectives that can only be achieved by using new technologies and rethinking production processes in relation to environmental impacts. A new model of circular economy which has regeneration as its key word ”, a paradigm that goes beyond recycling and reuse to give new life to everything that is discarded. Definitely, according to the EU, Industry 5.0 must highlight aspects that will be decisive factors, no longer just economic or technological, for the role of industry in future European society, with unprecedented attention to the environmental and social dimensions and fundamental rights.
