Disney began recruiting talents under the name of LucasArts’ predecessor game studio Lucasfilm Games in 2019. At that time, there were rumors that classic works such as “Monkey Island” may restart and launch new works, and a trailer was released earlier. In the film, it is further confirmed that a new work called “Return to Monkey Island” will be created, and the official promotion website is also officially opened.
In addition, the title shows that the game will be produced by Ron Gilbert, the co-producer of the original “Monkey Island Little Hero” and “Monkey Island Little Hero 2: Richard’s Revenge”, which means that the game will fully connect the story and play style of the original work.
This work will be developed by Lucasfilm Games in cooperation with Terrible Toybox and published by Devolver Digital. The story of the game will be set after “Monkey Island Little Hero” and “Monkey Island Little Hero 2: Richard’s Revenge”. Dave Grossman, the screenwriter of the “Monkey Island” series, is responsible for writing, and the protagonist Guybrush Threepwood will still be dubbed by Dominic Armato, and the original “Monkey Island” series will be responsible for the soundtrack of this new work.
However, the current trailer has not yet announced the expected release time of “Return to Monkey Island” and the expected distribution platform, but Devolver Digital is sure to launch it within this year.
