February 16 is a day to remember in the history of NFT, the Non Fungible Token that everyone is talking about today since the first Nft artwork created by the famous photographer Massimo Vitali, known for his color images of large format portraying people at beaches and mass recreational events.

The importance of this event concerns the caliber of the artist we are talking about. His photographs can be found in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, among other institutions. The value of Vitali’s work, also in the creation of the NFT, therefore lies in the uniqueness and originality of the work. Such an artist does not produce a new work of art without associating a profound and innovative content to their work. Massimo Vitali’s Nft is not a recycling operation of an old photo found in the archive, but was conceived, designed and built specifically to be placed in this new market. The team that worked with Massimo, of which I too was a part, has studied for more than a year the best language and content to maintain the coherence of the artist’s style and at the same time to position itself in this new market in the way appropriate.

The NFT, on sale with a starting price of 45,000 dollars, is called “Rosignano Session” and is made up of 36 photos, mostly unpublished, displayed in chronological order and without modifications, taken in the photo session at the “White Beaches” in the ‘August 2020. The famous work “the Penitent Magdalene” is part of that session, a detail of which is shown in the photo. Regarding the operation conducted, Vitali declares: “Rosignano Session helps the viewer to understand the experience I had when I arrived, and the viewer in turn is able to imagine a story, be interested in a certain situation and follow the movement of a favorite character through space and time, thus participating in the process behind my shooting sessions. Rosignano Session is a symbol of how humanity continues to move forward, despite all the circumstances “.

We are facing a significant event for the world of contemporary art because if it is true that millions of people are approaching the NFT, few great artists have had the courage to confront and express themselves in an original way in this new context. In the current market there are not many operations of this artistic depth. Damien Hirst tried with Currency but he simply digitally transferred a series of paper paintings. We could mention the splendid work that the curators of the enhancement of August Sander’s photographic archive have carried out, placing 10,000 autographed proofs on the market but also in this case a previous, existing work was used. Vitali went further, he wanted to get totally involved and provided his admirers and collectors with the possibility of possessing his experience in a photographic session.
He gave everyone a chance to see what he saw while taking the shots. Do not fall into the mistake of thinking that the video is being sold as the video is in clear, visible to all. What the collector buys is the concept, the experience of Massimo Vitali. Here lies the essence of the work. Here lies the revolution which is only at the beginning.
