New Study Shows Climbing 50 Steps a Day Can Reduce Risk of Heart Disease by 20%

A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Tuluane in the USA has found that climbing at least 50 steps a day can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease by 20%. The study, which analyzed data from over 450,000 adults in the UK Biobank, found that climbing stairs every day can have a positive impact on cardiovascular health.

The researchers looked at the genetic and established risk factors of the participants, such as high blood pressure and a history of smoking, and followed them for a median of 12.5 years. The study found that climbing stairs daily especially reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease in those who were less susceptible.

According to author Dr. Lu Qi, the increased risk of heart disease in susceptible individuals could be effectively offset by climbing stairs every day. The study also found that individuals who stopped using stairs daily during the study showed a 32% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease compared to those who never reported doing so.

The findings suggest that climbing stairs daily could be an effective way to burn fat, maintain physical fitness, and prevent cardiovascular diseases. The study did not compare the benefits of climbing stairs with walking or running, but it found that avoiding elevators and escalators could still have significant health benefits.
