‘Towards America’s Worst Dengue Epidemic in History’ – Breaking News

The American continent is currently facing a severe dengue fever epidemic, with over 3.5 million infections and at least a thousand deaths reported. According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), this epidemic is set to be the worst in history, with 80% of the world‘s cases concentrated in the region.

In a report published today, PAHO highlighted that the number of dengue fever cases has increased significantly in the first three months of 2024, with a 249% increase compared to last year and a 354% increase compared to the average of the last 5 years. The disease has been reported in 18 countries on the continent, with Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay being the most affected.

Brazil has recorded 2,323,150 confirmed cases of dengue fever as of March 27, with at least 830 deaths. In Paraguay, the number of cases is 23 times higher than last year, reaching 160,900 infections in 2024. Argentina has also seen a significant increase in cases, jumping from 8,300 to 102,800.

The situation is alarming, and health authorities are working to control the spread of the disease. The high number of cases and deaths are putting a strain on healthcare systems in the region. It is crucial for governments and communities to work together to prevent further spread of dengue fever and protect public health.
