Illegal Occupation: Primary School Gym Seized by Financial Police
An amateur wrestling club in Melito di Napoli, managed by former Olympian Michele Liuzzi, is facing consequences for occupying a local primary school gym without paying fees and preventing students from using it. The seizure of the gym at the 2nd Circolo “Giovanni Falcone” began today, as the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Naples Financial Police executed an emergency preventive seizure decree issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North.
The prosecutor’s office cited the continuing non-use of the structure by the educational institution due to the conduct of the wrestling association, which equipped the gym in a way that made it impracticable for the students to use it for educational physical activities. These findings have prompted the seizure for the crime of illegal occupation, carried out by the financial police.
The wrestling club’s exclusive use of the gym, as well as their failure to pay fees required by municipal regulation, were highlighted by the investigation. The occupation dated back to a period prior to the concession itself in January 2009, and despite a formal eviction order issued in July 2022, the association continued to dispose of the public property. These actions led to the adoption of the seizure measure by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North.
As a result of the seizure, the wrestling club will no longer have access to the primary school gym, and the case serves as a reminder of the consequences of illegal occupation and failure to adhere to municipal regulations.
