The Spring Festival travel season in China has led to a significant surge in the number of visitors to cultural tourist attractions across the country. According to China Unicom’s smart footprint big data, the total number of tourists at key cultural and tourism attractions has reached a staggering 123 million, marking a 22.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

Cities such as Chongqing, Wuhan, Xi’an, Beijing, and Kaifeng have become hotspots for cultural tourism, drawing in countless visitors from near and far. Popular attractions include Kaifeng Songdu Imperial City, Wuhan Chuhe Han Street, Shijiazhuang Zhengding Ancient City, Beijing Qianmen Street, and Chongqing Jiefangbei Hongya Cave, all of which boast rich cultural significance and historical heritage.

Moreover, tourists are spending more time at these cultural and tourist attractions compared to previous years. The data reveals that the average length of stay has extended from 3.4 hours to 4.2 hours, with a growing number of tourists opting to spend more than 4 hours at these sites.

Notably, cultural tourism attractions have also seen an influx of visitors from other provinces, with the proportion of tourists traveling from outside the region increasing by 5 percentage points compared to last year, from 23.5% to 28.5%.

This surge in cultural tourism not only reflects the growing interest in China’s rich cultural heritage but also signifies the positive impact of the Spring Festival travel season on the country’s tourism industry. As more tourists continue to flock to these attractions, local economies are expected to benefit from increased tourism spending and a boost in cultural exchange.
