Seventy-year-old Leo Vercauteren wants to walk through every municipality in Belgium to commit himself to the fight against poverty. He will walk 4,600 kilometers through the country’s 581 cities and municipalities in seven months. Leo would normally leave on Monday February 5, but postpones the start of his hike by two weeks due to an injury.

With the walk, the septuagenarian wants to support the fight against poverty in Belgium. He says he wants to draw attention to poverty in a prosperous country like Belgium. In concrete terms, he calls on people, companies and organizations to support the Network against Poverty and the 61 local associations in Flanders and Brussels and the Réseau Wallon de Lutte contre la Pauvreté.

Leo would normally start his tour on Monday February 5 in Ostend, but has to postpone his stunt due to a back injury. Within two weeks he would start in Ypres and catch up on the cities and municipalities he missed at the end of his journey.

Leo’s tour can be sponsored via the website www.tevoetdwarsdoorbelgië.be. Anyone who wishes can also join us for a walk.
