The first real Porsche was registered 75 years ago. The Stuttgart manufacturer is celebrating the anniversary with an event that will be streamed live on the Internet. Our picture gallery commemorates the birth of the legendary car.
On June 8, 1948 – 75 years ago – the Carinthian state government issued an individual license for the Porsche 356 No.1 Roadster. It was the first sports car to bear the Porsche name. Before that, the company founder Ferdinand Porsche had designed his vehicles on behalf of other manufacturers – from Wanderer to Auto Union to Hitler’s “Kraft durch Freude” car, which after the war as the VW Beetle symbolized the German economic miracle.
Die Stuttgarthe Porsche AG is celebrating anniversary with the special exhibition “Driven by Dreams”, which will be open to the public from June 9th in the Brand Museum in Zuffenhausen. The celebrations continue at the Hockenheimring this weekend, including a broadcast of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which celebrates its 100th anniversary.
